Too many women are being left in the dark before - and after - a surgery that changes everything.

Surgical menopause happens when both ovaries are removed, causing an immediate and permanent drop in hormone levels. It can lead to significant physical, mental, and emotional changes - and women deserve to be as fully informed as possible, and supported throughout this experience.

Our campaign, More Than a Signature, shares a selection of quotes from women who have experienced surgical menopause, drawn from surveys conducted by what is now Surgical Menopause NZ Trust and by MenoDoctor between 2022 and 2023. These voices highlight not only the lack of information before surgery, but also the lack of follow-up care and support afterward.

These stories make one thing clear: informed consent must be more than a signature. And support must continue well beyond the operating room.

They also lay the groundwork for what’s next - our upcoming patient booklet and a national campaign calling on Health NZ to distribute it across the system.

You know how when things start to change around us, our bodies seem to pick up on it first? That tight feeling in your chest, the nagging doubts, and the overall tiredness from trying to keep everything under control can really weigh you down.

So, how about joining Jules Bodger? She’s the founder of All About Your Joy and Your Joyful Path and will be coming to share a 30-minute experience about letting all that go and finding your happy place again.

She’s got a fun little mini-session planned for us. It starts with some good laughs (and yes, we’ll be doing some actual shaking!) and ends with a new way to look at change. Just imagine learning to reset your nervous system in less than a minute and starting to embrace life like it’s a moving meditation. You’ll walk away feeling more centred and clear-headed, plus you’ll learn some surprisingly easy techniques for riding those waves of change - whether at work or just in your daily routine.

And there’s no need to stress about being a meditation expert or anything. Just bring your positive vibes, an open mind, a little curiosity, and a willingness to shake things up - literally!
