Schools Competition 2026
Terms and conditions
1. Promoter
This competition (the Competition) is promoted by Tend Health Ltd (Tend).
2. Competition period
(a) The Competition opens on Monday 28 April 2026 at 9:00am NZST.
(b) Submissions close on Monday 3 August 2026 at 5:00pm NZST (the Closing Date).
(c) Late entries will not be accepted.
3. Eligibility
To be eligible to enter, participants must:
(a) Be enrolled at a registered New Zealand school.
(b) Enter as part of a team in one of the following formats:
(i) Class team: 5–30 students working together;
(ii) Club or group team: 3–15 students from health clubs, prefect groups, or similar;
(iii) Whole school or house initiative: a coordinated effort across multiple year levels.
(c) Submit an entry in one of the following age categories:
(i) Junior category: Years 7–8;
(ii) Senior category: Years 9–13.
(d) Have their entry submitted by a supervising teacher or authorised school representative.
4. How to enter
(a) Entries must be submitted via the online portal at womenshealthweek.nz/schools.
(b) Each entry must include:
(i) School name and contact details;
(ii) Supervising teacher's name and email address;
(iii) Team name and number of participating students;
(iv) Age category (Junior or Senior);
(v) The submitted content in an approved format.
(c) Schools may submit multiple entries, but each team may only submit one entry.
5. Submission requirements
Content formats
Entries must be submitted in one of the following formats:
- Video: 30 seconds to 3 minutes (dance, performance, drama, or music)
- Art: Photograph(s) of artwork in any form (painting, sculpture, graphics, animation) — 3 to 6 images with captions telling a story
- Creative writing: Poem, song lyrics, or short story (maximum 300 words)
Technical requirements
- Maximum file size: 100MB per submission
- Accepted formats: MP4 (video), JPEG or PNG (images), PDF (documents)
- Minimum resolution: 1080p for videos; 300dpi for images
Content guidelines
All entries must:
- Be original work created by the participating students (no AI-generated content)
- Contain age-appropriate messaging
- Feature inclusive and diverse representation
- Include factually accurate health information
- Maintain a positive, empowering tone
- Not include commercial branding (except acknowledgement of Tend Women's Health Week)
6. Themes
Junior category (Years 7 - 10)
Theme: “Healthy Me, Happy Me”
Focus areas: Body confidence, friendship support, healthy habits, growing up changes
Senior category (Years 11 - 13)
Theme: “Breaking Barriers, Building Futures”
Focus areas: Mental health awareness, reproductive health education, consent, sexual health, contraception, period poverty, career inspiration in health fields
7. Judging
(a) Entries will be judged by a panel selected by Tend.
(b) Judging will take place during the week of 4 August 2026.
(c) Entries will be assessed against the following criteria (100 points total):
(d) The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
Criterion
Creative impact (originality, visual appeal, engagement) - 25 points
Message clarity (clear health message, age-appropriate, educational value) - 25 points
Advocacy potential (ability to inspire action, conversation-starting power) - 25 points
Technical quality (production quality, presentation standards) - 25 points
Inclusivity and representation (diverse perspectives, cultural sensitivity) - 25 points
8. Prizes
(a) The total prize pool is valued at over $15,000.
(b) Prizes will be awarded in both the Junior and Senior categories.
(c) Specific prize allocations and values will be announced on the Competition website prior to the Closing Date.
(d) Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash.
(e) Prizes will be awarded to the school, not to individual students.
9. Winner notification
(a) Winners will be notified by email to the supervising teacher's email address provided at the time of entry.
(b) Winners will be announced publicly during Women's Health Week 2026 (week beginning 10 August 2026).
(c) A virtual awards ceremony will be held, and winners may be featured in media coverage and promotional materials.
10. Consent and guardian responsibility
By submitting an entry, the supervising teacher confirms that:
(a) They are authorised by the school to submit entries on behalf of participating students;
(b) The school acts in a guardian capacity and has obtained all necessary permissions from parents or caregivers for students to participate;
(c) Appropriate permissions have been obtained for any students appearing in photographs or videos;
(d) The school accepts responsibility for ensuring all necessary consents are in place.
11. Intellectual property
(a) Participating students and schools retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in their entries.
(b) By submitting an entry, the school and participating students grant Tend Health Ltd a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the entry for any purpose, including but not limited to:
(i) Promoting Women's Health Week in current and future years;
(ii) Health promotion and education campaigns;
(iii) Marketing and advertising materials;
(iv) Social media content; and
(v) Any other purpose Tend considers appropriate.
(c) Tend is not required to credit the school or students when using the content, although it may choose to do so.
(d) The licence granted under this clause survives the conclusion of the Competition and continues indefinitely.
(e) Entrants warrant that all submitted content is original and does not infringe any third party's intellectual property rights.
12. Publicity
(a) Winners agree to participate in reasonable publicity relating to the Competition, including media interviews, photography, and promotional activities.
(b) Tend may use the names and images of winning schools, teachers, and students (with appropriate consent) in promotional materials.
13. Disqualification
Tend reserves the right to disqualify any entry that:
- Does not comply with these terms and conditions;
- Contains content that is offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate;
- Infringes any third party's intellectual property or privacy rights;
- Contains false or misleading health information;
- Is not original work created by the participating students.
14. Liability
(a) To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tend exclude all liability for any loss, damage, or injury suffered by any person in connection with the Competition, including (without limitation) any loss arising from:
(i) Participation in the Competition;
(ii) Technical failures or difficulties with the submission portal;
(iii) Late, lost, or misdirected entries;
(iv) Acceptance or use of any prize.
(b) Nothing in these terms and conditions excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or any other applicable legislation that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified.
15. Privacy
Personal information collected in connection with the Competition:
(a) will be used for the purposes of administering this Competition and for the purposes set out in clause 11(b) of this Privacy Policy;
(b) may be shared with other corporate sponsors for the purposes of administering the Competition and delivering prizes; and
(c) will be otherwise handled in accordance with Tend's Privacy Policy, available at tend.nz/privacy
16. General
(a) Tend reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any amendments will be published on the Competition website.
(b) Tend reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Competition if circumstances beyond its reasonable control make it necessary to do so.
(c) These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
(d) By entering the Competition, entrants accept and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
