One question I hear often is: Can I measure my fertility? Or more specifically, Is there an egg count test I can do?
The short answer is: sort of. Dr Eileen explains:
There is a blood test called the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) test that gives an estimate of how many eggs you likely have left in your ovaries — essentially a glimpse of your egg “reserve.”
But it’s important to understand what this test can and can’t tell you.
AMH doesn’t show whether those eggs are actually released during each cycle. It also doesn’t reveal the quality of your eggs, which is crucial because only good-quality eggs can be fertilised by sperm and develop into a healthy embryo.
So, while the AMH test offers a rough guide to your fertility potential, it isn’t the full picture.
If you’re curious about your fertility, learning about your menstrual cycle, ovulation timing, and overall reproductive health remains key. There are also other tools and tracking methods that can help you understand your body better.
Fertility is a complex, personal journey — and having more information is always empowering.
